Apple has released the first beta of iOS 26.3, shortly after iOS 26.2’s public launch. This update introduces two significant features: a built-in tool for transferring data to Android devices and notification forwarding for third-party wearables in the EU. These changes reflect Apple’s evolving approach to interoperability and regulatory compliance.
Seamless Transfer from iPhone to Android
A major new addition is the “Transfer to Android” tool. This feature is now integrated directly into iOS, eliminating the need for extra apps. Users can migrate data—including apps, photos, contacts, and messages—by connecting both devices to the same Wi-Fi network. This move simplifies switching ecosystems, making it more accessible for users considering a change.
Notification Forwarding for EU Wearables
The second key feature, Notification Forwarding, is currently available only in the European Union. It allows third-party smartwatches and wearables to receive iPhone notifications. Users can enable it via Settings > Notifications > Notification Forwarding and select which apps can forward alerts.
This functionality is a direct result of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which mandates greater system openness. Notably, the feature works on only one wearable at a time; if an Apple Watch is connected, notifications will not forward to a third-party device.
Additional Interface Update
iOS 26.3 also refines the Weather wallpaper option. It now has a dedicated section within the Lock Screen customization menu, making it easier for users to find and apply dynamic weather backgrounds.
A Step Toward Openness
The iOS 26.3 beta signals Apple’s adaptation to user needs and regulatory pressures. The built-in Android transfer tool enhances consumer choice, while EU-specific notification forwarding demonstrates compliance with the DMA. These updates show Apple’s continued balancing act between ecosystem integration and mandated interoperability.
