Apple has released new AirPods iOS 26 features that improve usability, sound, and convenience. These upgrades include camera controls, studio-quality audio, and smart charging reminders.
The Camera Remote feature lets users control the Camera app or third-party camera apps. After enabling it in Settings, a long press on the AirPods stem starts or stops a photo or video. This gesture is faster than using an Apple Watch.
AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 now support studio-quality recording. With voice isolation, recordings for interviews, podcasts, or videos sound clearer and more professional. The upgrade works across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with apps like Camera, Voice Memos, and Zoom.
Call clarity has also improved. The H2 chip enhances vocal texture and reduces background noise, making conversations more natural on FaceTime, phone calls, and conferencing apps.
A new Pause Audio for Sleep setting stops playback when you fall asleep. It saves your place in a podcast or audiobook and conserves battery life. This feature also works with Beats earbuds.
The Keep Audio in Headphones option prevents music from switching to car speakers when you get into a vehicle. Playback stays in your AirPods until you choose otherwise.
Charging is easier to monitor with clearer case indicators. A green light shows full charge, pulsing amber means charging, and dark amber signals low battery. Users also receive reminders when it’s time to recharge.
Apple has also simplified beta updates. With iOS 26, you can toggle AirPods beta firmware in Settings after enrolling in the public or developer beta. This makes it easier to try new features early.
