Apple’s Upcoming M5 MacBook Pro Refresh

Apple’s Upcoming M5 MacBook Pro Refresh

The M5 MacBook Pro refresh is coming soon, but this update looks minor compared to past launches. If you’re shopping for a new laptop, here’s a clear breakdown of what to expect.

The main upgrade is Apple’s new chips: M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max. Built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P process, these processors follow the same advanced manufacturing technology as the iPhone 17’s A19 and A19 Pro chips. Apple will deliver stronger efficiency and performance, but the leap will likely feel smaller than previous jumps in silicon.

Beyond the processors, the new MacBook Pro models won’t feature major design changes. Expect the same look and displays seen in the M4 generation. The real overhaul comes in late 2026, when Apple plans thinner models with OLED displays and other big updates. That future refresh will draw far more attention from buyers who want cutting-edge features.

Connectivity could improve, though. Analysts believe the M5 MacBook Pro will support Wi-Fi 7, just like the latest iPhones. The M4 series skipped that upgrade, leaving room for this feature to debut in 2026.

Apple also appears ready to adjust its release cycle. Traditionally, MacBook Pro updates arrive in October. This time, reports point to an early 2026 launch, likely January. Apple took a similar path in 2023 when it unveiled new MacBook Pros at the start of the year. Interestingly, the first M5-powered device may not be a MacBook at all. The upcoming iPad Pro refresh could showcase the chip before these laptops arrive.

For buyers deciding whether to upgrade, the M5 MacBook Pro may not feel essential. The changes are mostly internal, and the delayed schedule makes the wait longer than usual. Instead, it might make sense to grab an M4 MacBook Pro now or hold off until the 2026 redesign.

The current M4 lineup already offers major benefits. Displays are brighter, webcams include Center Stage, and performance beats earlier Apple Silicon models by a wide margin. Combined with strong deals, these machines remain some of Apple’s best-value laptops.

In short, the M5 MacBook Pro refresh delivers Apple’s latest silicon but little else. Power users who want the newest chip will find it appealing, but design-focused buyers should wait for the 2026 upgrade. For everyone else, the discounted M4 lineup provides excellent performance at a lower price.

Deals highlight the value: the 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro starts at $1299, the M4 Pro 14-inch at $1799, and the M4 Pro 16-inch at $2249. Unless you need the absolute newest processor, these models may be the smartest buy until Apple introduces its bigger redesign.
