Apple has introduced Apple Vision Pro prism correction in visionOS 26, addressing a longstanding limitation for users with prism prescriptions. Previously, the device did not support prism values, which prevented some people from using ZEISS Optical Inserts effectively.
With the launch of Apple Vision Pro, a warning noted that prescriptions containing prism values were incompatible. Prism values are typically labeled separately on prescriptions from sphere, cylinder, axis, and ADD values. Users unsure if their prescription contains prism were advised to consult an eye care professional.
Now, visionOS 26 adds a Digital Prism Correction feature. Users in the US and select US territories—including American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, U.S. Minor Outlying Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands—can access this option in Settings by selecting “Add Prism Prescription.”
The feature allows you to input your prism prescription values directly. Apple supports prism prescriptions up to 7.75 Prism Diopters (PD) in both horizontal and vertical directions, covering base-in, base-out, base-up, and base-down configurations. The feature also supports the equivalent range in polar direction (0–359°) for each eye.
Prism values are tied to your optical inserts, enabling multiple sets of inserts for one device. You can also save the configuration to a guest profile, making it easier to share the headset without re-entering prism settings.
This update demonstrates Apple’s commitment to accessibility, allowing more users to benefit from Vision Pro. The addition of prism correction removes a major barrier and enhances usability for users with specialized prescriptions. Hopefully, Apple will expand this feature outside the US soon.
