Apple and Google have announced a rare joint effort to improve the Apple Google device switching experience. Starting today, the two tech giants are rolling out new features that make it simpler to move data between Android and iPhone devices.
Initially, the update is available in a new Android Canary build for Pixel phones. Soon, it will also appear in an upcoming iOS 26 developer beta. Both companies confirm that the experience will keep improving during the beta phase—including support for more data types over time.
So far, neither Apple nor Google has revealed exactly which new features the update includes. Additionally, they haven’t specified when the iOS 26 beta with these changes will launch. Notably, Apple just released an iOS 26.2 Release Candidate—but it does not contain the new cross-platform tools.
In the meantime, users can still rely on existing migration apps. Apple’s “Move to iOS” and Google’s “Android Switch” remain available for anyone switching platforms today. These apps will continue to work while the new system rolls out.
This collaboration marks a significant shift. Historically, moving between ecosystems has been clunky and incomplete. Now, with Apple and Google working together, the process could become far smoother—potentially encouraging more users to switch without fear of losing photos, messages, contacts, or settings.
Looking ahead, both companies say they are committed to refining the experience. As testing continues, more details will emerge—especially once developers and journalists explore the new builds.
We’ll share updates as soon as we—and our colleagues at 9to5Google—test the new features firsthand.
