Apple’s online store is facing tight availability for MacBook Pro models. Models with M4 Max chips are seeing delays. In the U.S., some configurations face shipping delays of up to two months. For example, built-to-order 14-inch MacBook Pro models with a 16-core M4 Max chip and 128GB of RAM may not arrive until March 17.
Shipping Delays on Select MacBook Pro Models
Some 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro configurations with M4 Pro chips still have quick shipping times. However, most M4 Max chip models are seeing delays. Delivery times for these models range from February 6 to February 24, with some customers seeing even later dates.
This high demand has led to speculation that Apple might release refreshed models with new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These models could explain the delays. But, supply issues with RAM could also be contributing to the slow delivery.
Reasons Behind the MacBook Pro Wait Times
Apple’s October refresh included the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip. Despite this, MacBook Pro availability remains tight. While the new 14-inch model is now available, customers are still waiting for models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
Custom MacBook Pro models, such as those with the 16-core M4 Max chip, are particularly affected. This suggests that Apple is dealing with both high demand and supply challenges.
What Could Be Coming in the Future?
Apple may soon announce a MacBook Pro refresh. This would follow their previous updates, such as the January 2023 launch of the M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro models.
Additionally, Apple is set to launch its Creator Studio bundle of creative apps on January 28. The company will hold its quarterly earnings call on January 29, possibly sharing more about upcoming MacBook Pro models.
