Should You Install the iOS 26 Beta?

While tempting, beta versions often contain bugs. Apple does not recommend installing developer betas on your primary iPhone. Use a secondary device if possible, and always back up your data first.

Back Up Your iPhone Before Installing iOS 26

To avoid data loss, create an archived backup via Finder:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac via USB.
  2. Open Finder and click your iPhone in the sidebar.
  3. Click “Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac.”
  4. (Optional) Enable “Encrypt local backup” and set a password.
  5. Click “Back Up Now.”

Your backup is saved and won’t be overwritten by future backups unless you choose to restore it.

Steps to Get the iOS 26 Developer Beta

1. Register for a Free Apple Developer Account

  • Open Safari on your iPhone and go to developer.apple.com.
  • Tap the menu icon and select Account.
  • Sign in with your Apple ID and verify using two-factor authentication.
  • Tap Account again, accept the Developer Agreement, then exit Safari.

🔒 You won’t be charged—free access is enough to get the beta.

2. Update to iOS 16.4 or Later

  • Go to Settings ➝ General ➝ Software Update
  • Make sure your iPhone runs iOS 16.4 or newer. If not, update it now.

3. Restart Your iPhone

This ensures the Developer Beta option becomes visible.

4. Enable Developer Betas in Settings

  • Go to Settings ➝ General ➝ Software Update ➝ Beta Updates
  • Select iOS 26 Developer Beta
  • Go back and check for updates
  • Tap Download and Install
