If you forgot your Apple Watch passcode, you will need to reset Apple Watch and set it up again. This process erases all media, data, and settings but keeps Activation Lock in place. To remove Activation Lock, you must unpair your watch first. Fortunately, Apple automatically backs up your contents to your iPhone before erasing.
To reset Apple Watch directly on the device, place it on its charger and leave it there until you finish the steps. First, press and hold the side button until the power options appear. Next, press and hold the Digital Crown until you see “Erase all content and settings.” Tap Reset, then tap Reset again to confirm. Wait for the process to finish, then set up your watch again. When prompted, restore it from the backup.
You can also reset Apple Watch using your paired iPhone. Keep both devices close together throughout the process. Open the Apple Watch app, then tap the My Watch tab. Select General, then Reset. Tap Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings, and confirm by tapping it again at the bottom. You may need to enter your Apple ID password.
For GPS + Cellular models, you will need to choose whether to keep or remove your cellular plan. Keep the plan if you want to pair your Apple Watch with the same iPhone again. Remove the plan if you do not plan to pair it again. If you plan to pair it with another device, contact your carrier to manage or cancel your subscription.
Once the process finishes, set up your Apple Watch again and restore it from a backup when prompted. This ensures your data, apps, and settings return safely while allowing you to start fresh with a new passcode. Using either your watch or iPhone, the reset Apple Watch procedure is straightforward and helps protect your information.
