YouTube TV Live Guide Redesign Rolls Out on Mobile Apps

Old design vs. new design

Old design vs. new design

The YouTube TV Live Guide redesign brings a cleaner layout, richer program details, and faster navigation to Android and iOS users worldwide.

The Live Guide experience on YouTube TV is getting a major upgrade as the platform begins a wide rollout of a redesigned interface for its Android and iOS apps. The update modernizes how viewers browse live channels, making the mobile experience closely match the TV-style guide introduced in 2023.

This new Live Guide replaces the older Live tab layout that relied on a basic vertical channel list with a fixed preview window. Instead, YouTube TV now focuses on clarity, speed, and information density, helping users see more content at a glance while moving through channels with less friction.

The redesign is part of YouTube TV’s broader effort to streamline live TV discovery across devices, ensuring mobile users get the same intuitive navigation already familiar to those watching on smart TVs and streaming boxes.

A key change in the Live Guide is the new grid-style layout. Channel logos now appear in a vertical column on the left, while program listings extend horizontally across the screen. This allows viewers to swipe sideways to explore upcoming shows and scheduling details without leaving the guide.

A red “Jump to live” button sits at the bottom of the screen, offering instant access back to the current broadcast at any time. This feature is especially useful for users who like to browse ahead while staying anchored to live programming.

Program information has also been enhanced. Each listing now shows total runtime and the remaining time in the current broadcast, giving viewers clearer context before tuning in. A new “Sort” option in the top-left corner lets users organize channels or content based on personal viewing preferences.

Interaction with shows has been refined as well. Long-pressing on a program opens a floating information panel that includes a preview, description, and quick actions. Users can add shows to their library, set reminders, jump to a program page, or switch channels, all without losing their place in the guide.

Unlike previous versions where details appeared fixed at the bottom of the screen, the floating panel design makes browsing smoother and less disruptive. This subtle change significantly improves usability, especially on smaller screens.

While the Live Guide redesign marks a noticeable improvement, other parts of the app such as the Home and Library tabs remain unchanged for now. The bottom navigation bar also continues to use older icons, suggesting a larger visual refresh aligned with YouTube’s latest design language may still be underway.

The update is rolling out gradually. Users who do not yet see the new Live Guide should confirm they are using the latest version of the YouTube TV app and restart it, as availability may vary by account and region.

Overall, the Live Guide update represents a meaningful step toward a more consistent, user-friendly YouTube TV experience across mobile and television platforms.
